Personal Profile:

Jim has been a valued member of Herrick & Hart, S.C. and the Eau Claire community since beginning his law career here in 1970. While Jim retired in the Summer of 2017, his legacy has made a lasting effect on the firm, his clients, and the community.

While at Herrick & Hart Jim was active in the State Bar of Wisconsin including service with its Lawyers Concerned for Lawyers program, the District 8 Board of Professional Responsibility which he co-chaired in 2001, and the Wisconsin Lawyers Assistance Program. He represented northwest Wisconsin in the Family Law Section of the Wisconsin State Bar from 2001-2003, and was the District 8 representative to the State Bar of Wisconsin Board of Governors from 2005-2008. In addition Jim has been very active in the local hockey program, especially with UWEC Blugold hockey. Jim continues to volunteer for many church and civic organizations and booster clubs.

Jim’s practice focus in the area of family law has been very important to him. Not only was Jim a strong advocate for his clients but his compassionate soul and congenial nature helped many of his clients through difficult times.

With his retirement Jim plans to spend time on the golf links with his buddies as well as spend some well-deserved time with family – his wife Jane of 46 years, his son Matt (also a lawyer in Madison), daughter-in-law Meredith (also a lawyer in Madison), his two grandchildren Alex and Kate, and his daughter Sarah.
