Ban on Cell Phone Use in Construction Zones

September 2016

On October 1, 2016, it becomes illegal in the State of Wisconsin to use a cell phone in a construction zone.  Wisconsin will become one of fourteen states that fully or partially ban the use of cell phones by drivers.  As of October 1st, a person who is using a cell phone without a hands-free device in a construction zone faces a $40 fine for the first offense and a $100 fine for any violations thereafter.  An exception to rule is made for those making an emergency phone call.
