May is Motorcycle Safety Awareness Month

May 2016

The month of May is Motorcycle Safety Awareness month.  As the weather warms, motorcycles will be moving back on the roads.  A driver of a car is reminded that a motorcycle is a vehicle and has the same rights and privileges on the road as a car.  Although wearing a helmet is not required under Wisconsin law, a safe choice would be to always wear a helmet when using a motorcycle.  A helmet has also been shown not to interfere with a motorcycle driver's hearing or vision.

At Herrick & Hart, we have worked on many cases involving injuries to those riding a motorcycle.  In many instances, those injuries came from a car driver not seeing the motorcycle.  A car driver needs to take the extra time in the summer months to be aware of the motorcycles on the road.
