When Your Child is Injured in a Car Collision

March 2018

All parents wish to protect their children.  Sadly, many children are hurt in car collisions. The data from the National Highway Safety Administration shows that head injuries are the most common injury for children under the age of 1.  The data also shows that for children in older age groups, hand and lung injures are the most common.

The best way for a parent to protect their child in a car is to put them in a child safety seat.  The parent should follow all of the instructions for the safety seat.  The parent should also follow safe driving practices while on the road.

If a child is injured, they have the same right to bring a claim in court for compensation.  The process for a minor is different from an adult in that a guardian ad litem will be required.  A guardian ad litem is appointed by the court to represent the best interests of the child.  They will assist the lawyer that you hire on the case.
